Liu Kang – Beginner Guide

Introduction

Liu Kang is a well-rounded, low-damaging strike/throw character with great offensive pressure and zoning. His fireballs allow him to effectively keep opponents out, while his multi-hitting attacks and staggers allow him to continuously pressure opponents up-close.

Basic & Kombo Attacks

1, 12
Used to punish unsafe moves. Can be staggered. 1 is -2 on block. 12 is +3 on block and frametraps into F4 but is a high attack.

B1, B124
A multi-hitting string. B1 is a 9 frame mid attack, is -4 on block and can be staggered. B124 is -6 on block.

212, 2121
A multi-hitting string. 212 is only -2 on block and can be staggered. 2121 is -5 on block.

F3333
A multi-hitting string that launches for a combo. Can be confirmed into Shaolin Stance on block to be made safe.

F4, F43, F43U3
A multi-hitting string that is used for pressure. F4 is a quick 9 frame mid attack. F4 and F43 are -7 on block and can be staggered. F43U3 is +4 on block but has an interruptable gap. F43U3 becomes a Krushing Blow when used as a Kounter or Punish.

Special Moves

Fireball – BF1
A high projectile attack. When Amplified, fires multiple high projectiles and becomes -4 on block but has a gap.

(Air) Fireball – BF1
Allows Liu Kang to use Fireball in the air. When Amplified, fires an additional high projectile.

Flying Dragon Kick – BF3
A quick, forward-advancing high attack. Becomes a Krushing Blow when used as a Kounter or Punish from maximum range or a Kombo of (Air) Fireball into Flying Dragon Kick from maximum range. When Amplified, deals additional damage.

Bicycle Kick – BF4
A high attack that is mainly used at the end of combos. Bicycle Kick restands the opponent and is +3 on hit. Becomes a Krushing Blow if Bicycle Kick has been Amplified 3 times in the match. When Amplified, deals additional damage and knocks the opponent down. Can be Amplified twice.

Fatal Blow – Enter the Dragon
Liu Kang’s Fatal Blow is a quick, forward-advancing attack that does a great amount of damage.

Luohan Quan

Low Fireball – DB1
A low projectile attack. When Amplified, fires an additional high projectile and becomes -4 on block but has a gap.

Shaolin Stance – DD1
A stance that can lead into 2 different attacks. Cancel Shaolin Stance, or 1, allows Liu Kang to cancel out of the stance at the cost of 1 bar of Defensive Meter. Monk Fury, or 2, is a multi-hitting attack that hits mid, overhead, mid and is -16 on block. Sneaky Monk, or 3, is a low attack that is -8 on block and has pushback.

Dragon Parry – DB3
An 8 frame parry that allows Liu Kang to counterattack high or mid attacks. Becomes a Krushing Blow if parries a Getup Attack or Block Attack. When Amplified, launches the opponent for a combo.

Wu Shi Legend

Energy Parry – DB2
An 11 frame parry that allows Liu Kang to absorb projectiles.

Dragon Fire – DB4
Temporarily increases Liu Kang’s damage. When used again after activating Dragon Fire, becomes a teleport that can lead into 4 different attacks. Dragon’s Gift, or DB4, is a high attack that hits from behind and is -8 on block. Shaolin Trip, or DB4,D, is a low attack that hits from behind and is -15 on block. Shaolin Stomp, or DB4,U, is an overhead attack that hits from above and is -13 on block. Shaolin Strike, or DB4,B, is a high attack that hits from the front and is -8 on block.
